Combined Operations with Cavalry; 1st Battalion 6th Infantry, US Army, Vietnam 1967 -71

Minesweeping operations - note the hundreds of Vietnamese waiting for the road to be cleared just
ahead of the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC).  A .50 cal machine gun points at the camera.

Overturned APC that apparently hit a mine.  Above two photos from Dave Bliss C/1-6 1967-68

Soldiers from 3/B/1-6 Inf hitch a ride on an APC from H Trp, 17th Cav, along the coast of the South
China Sea east of Binh Son on the way to/from a patrol.  It sure beat walking.

Armored Personnel Carrier "dune buggy" from H Trp, 17th Cav.  It even comes with its own 50.cal
machine-gun.  Below, test firing along the beach before the serious work starts for infantrymen from
the 1st Bn 6th Inf.

In the Fall of 1970, the 1st Battalion 6th Infantry had the additional mission of securing the land
clearing efforts of the 59th Engineer Land Clearing Company.  They also used the H Trp., 17th Cav
to provide mobility for search and clear operations of villages in the vicinity of the land clearing.  Here
soldiers from 3/B/1-6 Inf hitch a ride for their mission.  Four photos from Ray Tyndall 3/B/1-6.
